Food is an important component for any event. From birthday parties to wedding celebrations, hosts want to wow their guests with the food they serve. For most, this means choosing a special event catering service. There are many options to choose from when it comes to inside catering, and the following information can help you choose the best caterer for your special event.

Options

It's important to check to see that the caterer has menu options that fit the needs of you and your guests. Keep the following menu choices in mind.

  • Meat – Most events will serve a meat course.

  • Vegetarian – It's always a good idea to have a vegetarian option for guests who are vegetarian. If you have many vegan friends, you may want to request a vegan option.

  • Chicken or fish – Not everyone enjoys red meat, so it is nice to have a chicken or a fish option for these people.

If any of your guests have food allergies, discuss this with the caterer and make sure they have a plan in place to keep your guests safe from allergens.

Size of the event

Depending on the size of your event, a caterer may or may not have experience with preparing food for the number of guests you are expecting. Be clear about the number of guests and check with the caterer to make sure they've handled events of that size in the past. Even an amazing caterer may not be equipped for extra-large affairs.

Certification and Insurance

Any caterer that you consider hiring, should be able to show you proof of both certifications and insurance. Insurance protects you and them in the event of an accident or injury. Certification means that they have passed all health department requirements for food safety. Both are extremely important.

The bottom line is, it is up to you to do your homework. Do not be afraid to ask questions and to ask for what you want. If a tasting is not offered, request one. Take the time to look at their licenses and other certification documents. Make sure that all of your food needs can be met.
